What is Pilates?
The Pilates Method is a form of full body exercise that focuses on developing core strength and stability. Pilates exercises emphasize postural alignment, functional movement and muscular balance. Pilates can be used to correct imbalances in the body, help improve posture, strength and flexibility and aid with injury treatment and prevention.
I thought Pilates was just mat exercises. What equipment will I be using?
All sessions at Unity Pilates use specialised Pilates equipment including the Reformer, Cadillac (Trapeze Table), Wunda Chair, Ped-a-Pul, Spring Board, Pilates Barrels, as well as other small apparatus.
What's involved in the Initial Consultation?
During the initial consultation a medical and fitness history is taken and a postural assessment is performed. Following this, a basic exercise program is conducted using the Pilates equipment. From this process we are able to identify your strengths, weaknesses, goals and level of ability. This enables a detailed program to be written that is tailored to suit your needs and goals.
Following the initial consultation, a second private session is conducted so that your instructor can carefully guide you through your tailored program and give you any advice or feedback. From here your instructor will discuss with you a class that is most suited to your needs. At this stage the majority of people are able to enter small group classes.

What should I wear/what should I bring?
Wear comfortable workout clothing, a clean pair of socks and bring a hair tie along if you have long hair. Please try to avoid wearing clothing with zips as this can tear the upholstery on the equipment.
You should also bring along documents such as x-ray reports, scan reports or any other information you think would be useful regarding your health and medical history.
